The 2020 Tata Steel Masters is a 14-player single round-robin taking place from 11-26 January. World Champion Magnus Carlsen again heads the field, which includes Top 10 stars Caruana, Giri and So as well as 5-time World Champion Anand. A lot of the focus will be on young stars - Duda, Artemiev, Xiong and above all 16-year-old Alireza Firouzja, who makes his super-tournament debut. As well as the traditional venue in Wijk aan Zee, the Netherlands, one round will be played in the PSV football stadium in Eindhoven (16 January).
The time control is 100 minutes for 40 moves followed by 50 minutes for 20 moves, then 15 minutes for the rest of the game, with a 30-second increment per move from move 1. If there is a tie for first place the top two after tiebreaks then play a 2-game blitz (5+3) playoff and, if still tied, an Armageddon game. The monetary prizes will be shared evenly. 13:19, white can continue the attack with Q-g5, white will have to retreat with (1) K-h7 or (2) K-g7. If h7, then Black: Rxf7(check) , if g7 then bxe5 (check). Both these lines are winning for Black.

Young Padawan: points sword threatingly in Masters general direction... Master: calmly lights another cigar.... "Well, it might seem a bit premature, but for fun I need to have one hand busy at all times... my other hand will at times deal with you... your move...?"

this is brutall, cos i know alireza is a beast

"Help your pieces so they can hlp you" - Paul Morphy

    8. banjo32

Magnus was probably breathing too loud so Alireza got disturbed and couldn't concentrate, that's why he lost

    9. Uranus

Haters will say it was a fair game and Carlsen did nothing to put him off.

    10. Dave O

Dude Magnus Carlsen is operating on another level than everyone else. Is he real?

Once again Magnus shows his magical middle game.

@darth vader: still plenty of other stereotyps as..aaah, hmmm, aah, hmmooh.

    16. The Algerian Tank

This game was a good demonstration of the deep influence of Karpovian style on Magnus Carlsen.

    17. Prince CaraTv

Magnus send Alireza back to school😭

    18. Marius Daniel

Nice video,Great chess moves by both players!!

12:05 - somebody will have to explain why this is "an overwhelming position for black". In this position, White has the move, and has the advantage of a bishop (in an open game with pawns on both sides), and two of Black's pawns are en prise.

    20. Alan Jennings

One of Antonio’s finest analyses yet. Machine-gun rapid commentary delivery going through all the lines, and as always his wonderful turn of phrase in flawless English giving the mot juste to every situation on the board. I’ve yet to watch and listen to a better commentator.

    21. Rothamsted Research Hertfordshire

#suggestion I know the question is not correct. But can you select a game which can shed some light on the question "Is Magnus Carlsen stronger than Bobby Fischer?" with an elaborate comment on their individual style?

    22. Dima Zaitsev

Im around 1550 ELO and magnus plays my system 👏 Didnt know i have a system

    23. Sadanand Akshay Pai

Alireza had a chance at least to draw the game with magnus if magnus had wished him luck in Norwegian. Better luck next time

One side is a 16-years-old super GM, the other side is a 30-years-old world champion. I will not call it moment of truth!

Opening choice was a surprise. I thought he would play a Sicilian, since Magnus is a point behind. But he went for a Berlin, knowing Firouzja would play d3 most of the time, hence transposing to a closed Spanish. This gave Magnus chances to outplay his young opponent, since lots of pieces stay on the board. And this is exactly what he did! Very clever opening choice.

    27. Kakashi Hatake

Alireza just experienced how to be eaten alive. Poor guy.

    28. Umesh Patel

What a game by Magnus! He just keeps on playing the good moves consistently. I believe it comes naturally to him.

you would know who will win due to alireza being at the bottom or draw you know just me.

    35. Gabriel Esguerra

Alireza probably sick of this game after Magnus locked up not just the position but the whole board itself.

    43. misha bazyuk

Why do i always hear Word Czech champion instead of world chess champion? Or its only my problem?

    44. Sale Em

To be honest, I don't like the bootlicking spirit that this comment section has for Magnus Calrsen. Why does a chess game have to be an expression of power and dominance as people here like to portray? Give Alireza Firouzja some credit.

    45. October

I COULD NOT wait for your analysis on this game. I love how we all headed to your channel after the match; this is the after party.

What a fun game to watch! It was like watching a Brazilian jiu jitsu black blet slowly advancing in position and eventually strangling its opponent. Seeing all of white's pieces paralyzed and black taking advantage of it, all before time control was good fun.

    50. Vadim

13:40 He said "and now Bishop captures..." and drags Bish over the king. For quarter a sec I was like "wow Magnus!!!"

    51. Loot

My pieces never hlp me :(

    52. Simen Totland

the computer said capturing with the king instead of the knight was the only way to continue playing but still a losing position by far

    53. wewz Land

Even with more time Firo still cant beat magnus 😁😁😁
